Enjoyable Moderate Hike With Beautiful Views
I did this hike on 9-3-22, and started at the parking area in the northwest part of the trail, by the playground. There is a short path that leads down to the white blazed trail, then I followed the white trail to the blue trail, and around the pond in a clockwise direction. There are no hills to climb on this hike, but a lot of the trail is soft, loose sand, and there are exposed tree roots during much of the way, making it a bit more interesting than just a flat path. The trail twists and turns often, and there are lots of "side trails", many of them leading to the edge of the pond for one beautiful view after another. While there were a fair amount of people using the trail, i had lots of trail time in solitude. I passed one person riding a horse. The trail is well marked the entire way, and easy to follow, and it took me 2.5 hours to complete. I would say that this is by far the most enjoyable hike I have done on Long Island. I look forward to going back in winter when there is snow on the ground.
