Sparta Glen Park
Park Overview:
Located in a unique ravine with great natural beauty and historical interest. A short moderately steep climb leads to an unobstructed view of Lake Mohawk.
Park Description:
The stream passing through Sparta Glen's narrow valley forms part of the headwaters of the Wallkill River. The park offers several picnic benches along this cascading stream. It also offers a compact network of trails, some blazed and others informal pathways. The elevation gain to reach the summit viewpoint is just over 350 feet, and the access trails are steep in places.
Trails Overview:
At least two trail options are available for reaching the scenic view overlooking Lake Mohawk.
- From the second parking area (first parking lot on the right after going through gated entrance), the Blue Trail begins opposite the parking lot and soon meets up with the Green Trail that can be taken up the mountain to the overlook. Hikers have noted gaps in blazes making them hard to follow. GPS Coordinates: 41.039389, -74.618695
- From the third parking area at the end of the paved road, an unmarked trail begins in the right corner of the parking area and climbs, sometimes steeply involving a rocky scramble, to the overlook.
